News and Exhibitions:

:::STILL LIFE::: at Lost Art Sp_ce - Opening Friday 29 March 2013 6-10pm - "Life is still life is still life is still life; any way look at it you lose. The random placement of certain objects deciding your fate-the idea seems absurd, completely counter-intuitive to free will, and yet they seem to take on such significance in the right context. How can a glass of water, a feather, a box of matches and a couple of pieces of fruit take on such foreboding soulfulness? Like nourishment for the afterlife, mundane accoutrements are transformed into artifacts of ritual- oracles describing hidden sources of power. We exist among landscapes of these objects they outnumber us and on some level control us, telepathically, to objectify them and join them in admiration of inanimate beauty. The illusion somehow surpasses reality, like a charismatic leader, or a radioactive fog that allows us to forget, if only for a little while, that the shape of the future is still unseen, and the ways of the past are lost. Featuring artists: Daniel Coonfield Paul Flinders Jesse Gray Erok Johanssen Alicia Kelly Kate Larson Jeromy Morris Molly Murphy Jeremy Rockwell Yuri Zupancic

BRISBANE: Yuri was awarded Peoples' Choice Award in Brisbane at the Wandering Room's Art Prize Exhibition, CLOSER (click for article and photos in Independent Press)

Artist Description  by Jeremy Stephenson
An artistic sponge.  Yuri dabbles in almost everything, and I realize the word everything is using a broad brush.  If I look at a scene and notice a few things, Yuri has probably absorbed 10 times that amount, finding patterns in the textures and colors in the details.  I think he likes to experiment a bit with everything life has to offer.
Yuri defines going with the flow, drifting through random sleeping cycles, floating through cities throughout the world, and creating different art with whatever tools are at his disposal.  Paints, polaroids, canvases, microchips, metals, rollerblades, languages, and anything else that crosses his paths.  Music pulses through his veins, his entire house lined with instruments originating from various cultures.  He can play every single one of them.
If this is starting to seem like one of those weirdo artist types who can’t relate to anybody, think again.  He finds the chord to vibe on with the gallery owner, the rich guy, the poor guy, the hardcore rocker and the yoga instructor.  Natural adapter with a restless curiosity.  It’s like his brain works differently, he paints differently, he creates music differently, but still maintains a common thread with everybody he comes in contact with.
