Artist Info.Born 1980. Largely self-taught. Painting/Exhibiting since 1998. Raised in Dodge City, spending formative years in Lawrence, Kansas. After working and traveling in Australia and New Zealand in 2011, Yuri is spending the Winter in Kansas and Colorado, then Europe in the Springtime. Much of 2009-2010 was spent in Paris, as well as Portland, Oregon.Mediums: Acrylic, Oil, Spraypaint, Collage, Grattage, Pencils, Microchips and Circuit Boards, Analog and Digital Sounds, Assemblage, Found Objects, Photography, WordsCo-founded Fresh Produce Art Collective, and DotDotDot ArtSpace.Solo exhibitions include Invisible Hand Gallery, DOTDOTDOT Artspace, the B Gallery, Kansas Union Gallery, Stepford Gallery, Bourgeois Pig, Rock Gym (Boulder, CO), Club Kocka (Split, Croatia), as well as exhibiting in and curating elements of over 50 group exhibitions in six countries.Yuri has enjoyed working with the Estate of William S. Burroughs, which is planning a 2012 exhibition in Karlsruhe, Germany. He curated "Naked Leftovers" a two-gallery exhibition of William Burroughs' art in Lawrence, KS and assisted in the curation and displayed his own collage at the Royal Academy of Arts in London for Burroughs Live.Over the past several years, Yuri has also helped archive and catalogue the amazing paintings of the late artist Kenji Yoshida, a Japanese WWII veteran whom became an artist and spent most of his life painting in Paris.
Artist Description by Jeremy StephensonAn artistic sponge. Yuri dabbles in almost everything, and I realize the word everything is using a broad brush. If I look at a scene and notice a few things, Yuri has probably absorbed 10 times that amount, finding patterns in the textures and colors in the details. I think he likes to experiment a bit with everything life has to offer.Yuri defines going with the flow, drifting through random sleeping cycles, floating through cities throughout the world, and creating different art with whatever tools are at his disposal. Paints, polaroids, canvases, microchips, metals, rollerblades, languages, and anything else that crosses his paths. Music pulses through his veins, his entire house lined with instruments originating from various cultures. He can play every single one of them.If this is starting to seem like one of those weirdo artist types who can’t relate to anybody, think again. He finds the chord to vibe on with the gallery owner, the rich guy, the poor guy, the hardcore rocker and the yoga instructor. Natural adapter with a restless curiosity. It’s like his brain works differently, he paints differently, he creates music differently, but still maintains a common thread with everybody he comes in contact with.Exhibition Views
